Ittinsect, a pioneering company in sustainable protein production, has secured over €600,000 in non-dilutive funding to advance its first black soldier fly larvae production plant. The substantial investment, primarily from Invitalia, Italy’s Development Agency, will facilitate the construction of a pilot plant capable of producing 2,300 tonnes of sustainable proteins annually for the aquafeed sector by 2025.
This funding represents a significant milestone for Ittinsect, enabling the company to demonstrate the technical and economic viability of its products on a larger scale. The pilot facility will serve as a crucial stepping stone towards establishing Ittinsect’s first industrial plant, while also supporting the recruitment of specialized personnel and the pursuit of new patents, further solidifying the company’s position as a leading innovator in the market.
Alessandro Romano, CEO of Ittinsect, expressed gratitude for the national support received from Italy’s National Development Agency, noting that it builds upon prior backing from the Lazio Region during the project’s pre-seed phase. Romano emphasized the company’s commitment to leveraging public support at both national and international levels to drive innovation and sustainability in the protein production industry.
