A recent meeting convened at Natun Bazar Launch Ghat Road in Khulna saw stakeholders in Bangladesh’s fishery industry championing the adoption of an e-traceability system to fortify the sector and enhance its global export capabilities. Participants unanimously underscored the pivotal role of e-traceability in propelling the expansion of intelligent fisheries within the country, ultimately contributing to a positive reputation for fisheries exports on the global stage.
Jointly organized by the Fish Farm Owners Association of Bangladesh (FOAB) and the Fishery Products Business Promotion Council of the Commerce Ministry, the meeting aimed to shed light on the importance of implementing a smart fisheries e-traceability pilot program. Md Moniruzzaman, the coordinator of the Smart Fisheries E-Traceability Pilot Project, presented the program during the event, emphasizing the necessity of traceability to uphold the standing of the shrimp industry in the highly competitive global market.
Emphasizing the need for a robust e-traceability system, speakers at the event highlighted its role in identifying intermediary stakeholders within the fishery supply chain. This approach ensures a transparent and reputable supply of fish for the global market, contributing to the growth and sustainability of the sector.
During the discussions, stakeholders stressed the importance of the e-traceability initiative in maintaining the reputation of the shrimp industry in the international market. They highlighted that achieving this goal requires the identification and involvement of all intermediary stakeholders in the fishery supply chain, covering actual licenses to establish a transparent and accountable system.
This initiative aligns with Bangladesh’s vision to leverage technology for the advancement of its fisheries sector, aiming for a more intelligent and export-oriented industry. The adoption of an e-traceability system is viewed as a proactive step toward ensuring the quality, transparency, and global competitiveness of Bangladesh’s fishery products in the evolving international market.
