A devastating fire broke out early this morning (29-3-2024) at a seafood manufacturing plant located in the Baikampady industrial area, resulting in significant losses estimated at several crores of rupees. The incident unfolded at the Shihar Enterprises factory around 4:45 am, swiftly engulfing the entire facility in flames.
Eight fire tenders from MRPL and NMPT rushed to the scene to battle the inferno. Despite three and a half hours of relentless efforts, firefighters managed to bring the fire under control, but not before the factory suffered extensive damage.
Preliminary investigations suggest that a short circuit triggered the fire, causing an estimated loss of approximately Rs. 3 crores. Owned by Shihar Enterprises, the fish meal factory in the Baikampady Industrial area fell victim to the blaze on Thursday morning, officials confirmed.
Locals reported the fire to the fire department upon its discovery at 4:45 am. Despite prompt response from fire engines, the fire had already spread to various sections of the factory, posing a significant challenge to containment efforts. It took nearly four hours of firefighting operations to completely douse the flames, according to officials.
While investigations into the cause of the blaze are ongoing, authorities suspect an electrical short circuit as the likely trigger. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of fire safety measures in industrial settings, highlighting the need for vigilance and precautionary measures to prevent such disasters in the future.
