ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-CCARI), in partnership with the Department of Fisheries Goa, has taken significant strides towards enhancing the availability of cultivable fish seeds in Goa. By supplying 70 kg of high-quality brood fishes for seed production, ICAR-CCARI aims to address the growing demand for fish seeds and support the aquaculture industry in the region.

With its wealth of experience in aquaculture, ICAR-CCARI has developed innovative techniques for both freshwater and brackish water aquaculture. As part of its ‘Mega Seed Project’, the institute has been focusing on producing seeds of ornamental and cultivable fish species to meet the needs of fish farmers in the area.

Recognising the importance of freshwater aquaculture seed production, ICAR-CCARI has collaborated with the Directorate of Fisheries Goa to provide brood stocks of Catla, Rohu, and Common Carp. This collaborative effort ensures that fish farmers have access to high-quality and affordable seeds, thereby boosting livelihood opportunities within the state.

The initiative not only supports the growth of aquaculture but also empowers fish farmers by providing them with the resources they need to thrive. By promoting economic prosperity in Goa, ICAR-CCARI and the Department of Fisheries Goa are working together to strengthen the aquaculture sector and contribute to the overall development of the state.
