The state government has introduced the Chief Minister Carp Fishery Yojana, a new scheme aimed at promoting fish farming among rural youth by offering an 80% subsidy. This initiative seeks to generate self-employment opportunities and make fish farming more accessible to interested residents who can apply through their local district fisheries offices to begin carp farming projects.
Vivek Chandel, Director of Fisheries in Bilaspur, explained that applicants need to follow a prescribed application process and either own or lease land with a registered lease valid for a minimum of ten years. Required documentation includes an Aadhaar card, mobile number, and bank account details.
Ponds must cover at least 500 square meters, and projects can expand up to two hectares. Applications will be assessed based on recommendations from the Senior Fisheries Officer in the area, with priority given to unemployed youth on a “first come, first served” basis.
The subsidy will be provided in two phases: 50% after half of the construction is completed and the rest upon full completion, pending approval from the Senior Fisheries Officer. Beneficiaries are required to sustain the fish ponds for a minimum of seven years to ensure long-term productivity.
This scheme is poised to offer meaningful support to rural communities, fostering sustainable employment and growth within the fishery sector.
