Dead Dolphin Found on Pantai Ruat Shore Suspected Boat Collision

The shores of Pantai Ruat, Yan, witnessed a tragic discovery as a dead dolphin, weighing approximately 220 kilograms, washed ashore on Sunday. Lieutenant (PA) Zul Izzi Zulkifli, District Civil Defence Force (APM) Officer, reported receiving information about the dolphin carcass around 5 pm.

A team of six officers promptly responded to the scene, where they found the dolphin, measuring approximately 1.8 metres in length, lying on the beach. Suspecting that the dolphin may have been struck by a boat propeller, they took immediate action and notified the Kedah State Fisheries Department.

In a statement issued on Monday, Lieutenant (PA) Zul Izzi Zulkifli confirmed the suspicion of a boat collision and stated that the dolphin carcass was relocated to another location for further examination and action.

The incident highlights the potential dangers marine life faces from human activities, particularly in areas frequented by boats. It serves as a reminder of the importance of practising caution and implementing measures to protect marine biodiversity and prevent such unfortunate incidents in the future.
