Department of Fisheries Joins Forces with ONDC to Revolutionize Digital Marketing of Aquatic Products

by Fishery News

As a major step toward modernizing fisheries, the Department of Fisheries has forged a strategic association with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) for the promotion of digital marketing of fish and other aquatic products.

The MoU sealing this cooperation took place today in New Delhi, with government authorities present like Shri. Mr. Parshottam Rupala, the Honourable Union Minister of the Department of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, and Mr. L. Murugan, the Honourable Union Minister of State for the Department of Fisheries and I&B. This game-changing project aims to reshape the conventional model of marketed and sold fishery products by using the power of digital platforms.

While addressing the event, Mr. Rupala asserted the value and integrative power of the partnership, saying such a partnership can connect fish farmers directly to consumers through online means. This move to digitalize the fishery industry offers the convenience of online services to our customers but also the chance for small-check fishermen to make more money. Mr. Rupala was confident that the collaboration would be beneficial in enhancing the consumption patterns of fishery products at the domestic level, as the market for locally sourced fish was likely to increase.

Furthermore, the ONDC platform was highlighted in the sense that it educates consumers about the wide diversity of fishery products, thereby enabling them to have more choice on what to buy. The digital technology applications in the fisheries sector are likely to simplify operations, enhance the market reach of fishers, and guarantee transparency in the whole sector value chain. This clearly shows that the Department of Fisheries is utilizing the strategic MoU with ONDC to steer the innovation-driven sustainable development of the fisheries industry in India.
