Dr. Debtanu Barman, a renowned fisheries entrepreneur and consultant from East India and the North Eastern Region, has been elected as the President of the North East Zone for the Fish Worker Federation of India (FISHFED).

As the Founder & CEO of Aqua Doctor Solutions and a Livelihood Project Trainer, with a wealth of experience and expertise in sustainable aquaculture, Dr. Barman is poised to lead the region towards greater fishery welfare activities and upliftment of the fisheries community. FISHFED is recognized for its dedication to sustainable fishery and aquaculture management activities nationwide.

The North Eastern Region of India is considered the largest fish consumption zone in the country and is set to become the biggest aqua hub in the near future. Dr. Barman’s leadership aims to drive development initiatives in this region, fostering growth and prosperity for all stakeholders.

Dr. Debtanu Barman holds a Master’s degree in Aquaculture from Belgium and has over 12 years of experience in the aquaculture industry. He is known for his expertise in various aspects of sustainable aquaculture, including BMP-based farming models, biofloc-based aquaculture, RAS aquaculture, ornamental fish farming, and aquapreneurship development.

Throughout his career, Dr. Barman has held leading positions in global international business firms and NGOs, where he has contributed to the implementation of fish and shellfish farming projects across India, Bangladesh, and Nepal. He is particularly adept at starting new business ventures through aquapreneurship development programs, empowering women and youth in developing countries.
