With over 25 years of practical experience in shrimp farming, Dr. Sharma’s insights promise to captivate and enlighten attendees at this prestigious event.
Recipient of the National Award for Farmer-Aquaculture, Dr. Sharma has been a driving force in revolutionizing sustainable shrimp farming practices. His contributions have significantly impacted rural communities, with over 4000 hectares of shrimp farming area benefiting thousands of individuals.
Dr. Sharma’s innovative concept of satellite shrimp farming has reshaped the landscape of shrimp production in Gujarat. By providing comprehensive support encompassing technical knowledge, seed, feed, and buyback arrangements, he has facilitated a manifold increase in shrimp production, empowering local farmers and enhancing their livelihoods.
Under his guidance, Surat has emerged as a shining example of successful shrimp production in India. Dr. Sharma’s efforts in developing a skilled technical team have transformed Surat into the most successful shrimp-producing district in the country.
In addition to shrimp farming, Dr. Sharma has made significant strides in freshwater fish and prawn farming, further diversifying and enhancing Gujarat’s aquaculture sector.
His pioneering pilot project on cage culture in the Ukai Reservoir, implemented under the DRDA scheme, has inspired thousands of fishermen to adopt cage farming as a sustainable livelihood option.
In 2005, Dr. Sharma founded Mayank Aquaculture Pvt. Ltd., which has garnered international repute for producing 500 tons of shrimp annually. His visionary leadership has propelled the company to new heights, setting a benchmark for excellence in aquaculture.
As the General Secretary and founder member of the Surat Aquaculture Farmers Association (SAFA), Dr. Sharma has spearheaded initiatives to promote cooperative and sustainable shrimp farming practices, catalyzing a Blue Revolution in Surat district.
