In a heartfelt gesture, local environmentalists gathered at Visarjan Ghat in Pimple Gurav to pay respects to the numerous dead fish found in the Indrayani River. The event, prompted by growing concerns about pollution in the Pavana and Indrayani rivers, highlighted the pressing need to address environmental issues in the area.
The distressing sight of dead fish floating in polluted waters has alarmed nearby communities and environmental advocates. It has become clear that urgent action is required to tackle pollution and safeguard the health of our rivers and their aquatic life.
The tribute aimed to raise awareness about the harmful effects of pollution on river ecosystems. Organised by Dilasa Sanstha, Human Rights Protection and Awareness, and the Environment Conservation Committee of Pimpri Chinchwad, the event stressed the importance of immediate action to tackle pollution in the Pavana and Indrayani rivers.
Concerns have been raised about the increasing presence of water hyacinth, which disrupts fish movement and exposes them to contamination. Additionally, declining oxygen levels and rising nitrogen concentrations pose serious threats to aquatic life, leading to the tragic deaths of many fish.
During the tribute, environmentalist Tanaji Ekonde and other activists urged authorities and citizens to take proactive steps to reduce pollution levels and protect vulnerable fish species.
This solemn event serves as a reminder of the urgent need to work together to protect our rivers and their inhabitants from pollution.
