Representatives from Europe’s fisheries and aquaculture sectors have come together to announce the launch of the European Strategic Seafood Alliance during the Seafood Expo Global in Barcelona. AIPCE CEP, EAPO, Europêche, and FEAP joined forces to amplify their impact and promote industry priorities on a broader scale.
The alliance aims to raise awareness about the benefits of seafood consumption for human health, climate impact, and sustainability. By aligning their efforts, the organisations seek to advocate for supportive policies and drive positive change in EU and global policy discussions.
During the announcement, there was a unanimous call to prioritise primary food production, including fisheries and aquaculture, alongside agriculture within the EU institutions to ensure food security in the market. The alliance emphasises the importance of repositioning the fisheries and aquaculture mandate high on the European Commission’s agenda during the upcoming political mandate period (2024-2029).
Furthermore, the alliance intends to educate consumers about seafood production methods, nutritional benefits, and the individuals behind the products they purchase. This collaborative effort represents a significant step forward in advancing the EU fisheries and aquaculture aspirations and demonstrates the commitment of AIPCE CEP, EAPO, Europêche, and FEAP to effect positive change through coordinated action.
