The Quality Assurance and Management Division of the ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (ICAR-CIFT) commenced a comprehensive training program on Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) on August 5. Running until August 9, 2024, this initiative is part of the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP), aiming to uplift and empower Scheduled Caste students by providing them with crucial skills in fisheries quality control.
A total of 27 students from various states are participating in this program. The course covers a wide range of essential topics including the identification and management of physical, chemical, and biological hazards in fish and fishery products. Participants will learn how to prepare effective HACCP plans, utilize HACCP worksheets efficiently, and engage in practical group work sessions to reinforce their understanding.
Dr. Ramesh Kumar, Head of the Quality Assurance and Management Division, emphasized the importance of this training. “Ensuring the safety and quality of fishery products is paramount, and HACCP is a critical component in achieving this. Our program is designed to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to implement HACCP protocols effectively, thereby enhancing the overall quality control measures within the fisheries sector.”
The training program includes a blend of theoretical lectures and hands-on practical sessions. Experts from the field will guide the participants through real-world applications of HACCP, ensuring that they gain a thorough understanding of the concepts and their practical implications.
Participants will also have the opportunity to engage in interactive sessions, discussing the challenges and solutions related to HACCP implementation in the fisheries industry. This collaborative approach is expected to foster a deeper understanding and encourage the exchange of ideas and best practices among the participants.
By the end of the program, the students will be well-equipped to apply HACCP principles in their respective fields, contributing to the production of safer and higher-quality fishery products. This initiative not only aims to enhance individual capabilities but also seeks to elevate the standards of the fisheries sector as a whole.
The ICAR-CIFT’s HACCP training program stands as a testament to its commitment to advancing fisheries technology and ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety in fishery products.
