Training Programmes for Aquaculture Technicians Enhancing Skills and Knowledge for Sustainable Aquaculture

MPEDA’s Sub Regional Divisions Nagapattinam is organizing extension programmes at the RGCA Conference Hall in Sirkazhi, Mayiladuthurai District. These programs aim to educate farmers and stakeholders about emerging technologies in aquaculture, including:

  • Best Management Practices (BMPs)
  • Disease prevention and control
  • Abuse of antibiotics
  • Propagation of species diversification
  • SHAPHARI Certification of shrimp hatcheries and farms
  • Formation of societies for promoting eco-friendly and sustainable aquaculture

MPEDA, through its society, the National Centre for Sustainable Aquaculture (NaCSA), works towards the upliftment of small-scale farmers through a cluster-based approach, encouraging societies to adopt BMPs.

Training Programmes

Basic Training (4 Days)

This 4-day training is designed for technicians working in the aquaculture sector with at least 1 year of experience in shrimp aquaculture and holding a diploma or graduation.

Eligibility:

  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year in shrimp hatchery or farm
  • Education: Diploma/Graduate
  • Age: Above 20 years
  • Fee: Rs. 5000 + 18% GST (50% discount for SC/ST candidates, subject to fund availability)

Program Details:

  • Duration: 4 days
  • Number of Participants: 20-30
  • Subjects Covered: Seafood export scenario, innovations and technologies, government regulations, health management, food safety and traceability, market access issues, AMR, global competitiveness, work sessions, and field visits.
  • Assessment: Pre-test and post-test (certificates issued to those scoring above 50%)
  • Fee: Rs. 5000 + 18% GST
  • Additional: Working lunch, tea, and snacks provided; includes one day of field visit.

Advanced Workshop Training (2 Days)

This 2-day advanced workshop is designed for technicians with over 10 years of experience in the aquaculture sector or those who have completed the basic training.

Eligibility:

  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years
  • Education: Diploma/Graduate/Postgraduate in Fisheries Science/Aquaculture/Life Science or technicians who have attended the Basic Training conducted by MPEDA
  • Age: Above 30 years
  • Fee: Rs. 3000 + 18% GST

The date will be intimated after the confirmation of sufficient participant registrations.

Registration:

Technicians can register through the MPEDA website or mobile app by providing basic details such as address, proof of employment in aquaculture, proof of educational qualification, age, and paying the required fee for the desired training slot.
