Fishing operations in Thoothukudi district will be suspended for two days, Tuesday and Wednesday, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to visit this coastal town. Security has been enhanced, including the prohibition of trucks parking near the VOC Port.
The Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, is expected to visit a function or scheme near VOC Port Higher Secondary School tomorrow. He will inaugurate all the completed projects and lay the foundation stone for new schemes, including outer harbor development. The police have put their manpower along the Thoothukudi coast. They are conducting patrols and nonstop surveillance. The operation of mechanized and country boats has been banned, and the coastal communities in the district have been notified through the media. It is also prohibited for trucks to park from the VOC port to Tirunelveli Rd. Junction for 24 hours, starting at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
PM Modi is to hold a public meeting at Palayamkottai after the function at VOC Port. He will be scheduled to arrive at the helipad behind St. John’s Higher Secondary School around 11.15 a.m. tomorrow and then move to the nearby Bell School field. As he participates in the one-hour public meeting, he is considered to have begun his election campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in south Tamil Nadu.
Security is being tightened in Palayamkottai as vehicles are checked more rigorously and the shops around the venue are pulled down. 2,000 policemen will be deployed to ensure security throughout the visit.
