GITAM University Hosts Seminar on Marine Research Opportunities in Collaboration with Leading Institutes

Visakhapatnam: GITAM Deemed to be University’s School of Science recently organized a seminar on marine research opportunities in collaboration with esteemed institutions such as the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT), and Central Marine Fisheries Research & Technology Institute (CMFRTI). The seminar aimed to foster mutual interests and explore avenues for collaborative research.

Dean Krishna of the School of Science highlighted the significant contribution of approximately 30 faculty members at GITAM engaged in marine and aquaculture-related research. Their areas of focus encompass a wide range, including feed technology, biofuels, waste management, bioremediation, and the extraction and identification of novel compounds.

During the seminar, scientists from CIFT, U. Sreedhar, and Madhusudhan delivered talks on harvest and post-harvest technologies conducted by ICAR-CIFT. The insights shared shed light on advancements in these critical areas of fisheries technology.

Representatives from the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), including V.V.S.S Sharma, Director of NIO Visakhapatnam, and scientists Damodar Belle Shenoy, Jagadeesan Loganathan, and T. N. R. Srinivas, provided valuable information on research and entrepreneurship activities at NIO. The discussions covered topics such as marine fungi, marine-derived fungi, and the bioprospecting potential of microalgae, offering a comprehensive overview of the institute’s ongoing initiatives in these domains.
