ICAR- Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (CCARI), Goa, collaborated with Coastal Impact to organise a significant cleanup initiative on 28th April 2024, at St. George Island, Goa, aimed at preserving the marine ecosystem. The event witnessed active participation from 40 individuals, including representatives from Coastal Impact, ICAR-CCARI, school students, and volunteers from various educational institutions.
Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director of ICAR-CCARI, highlighted the crucial role of the marine ecosystem and fisheries in coastal regions. He praised the efforts of Coastal Impact and assured full support from ICAR-CCARI towards their conservation initiatives
Mr. Venkatesh Charloo, founder of Coastal Impact, stressed the importance of marine conservation and the necessity of beach cleaning activities during a pre-cruise briefing.
The cleanup drive successfully removed a significant amount of marine waste, mitigating immediate threats to marine life and habitats and promoting a healthier ecosystem. It also empowered local communities, raised awareness about marine conservation, and inspired collective commitment to safeguarding oceans for future generations.
Shri. Trivesh Suresh Mayeker, a distinguished Scientist at ICAR-CCARI, highlighted the significance of such cleanup efforts and addressed the alarming menace of microplastics in oceans.
The ICAR-CCARI team demonstrates a unified commitment towards safeguarding precious marine habitats for future generations.
