In a coordinated effort, naval forces from India and Seychelles successfully thwarted separate pirate hijackings in the waters off Somalia, rescuing a total of 23 fishermen hailing from Iran and Sri Lanka.
The Seychelles Défense Forces, along with the coast guard, executed a daring operation to reclaim a Sri Lankan fishing vessel seized by armed Somali pirates. This courageous maneuver led to the apprehension of three hijackers and ensured the safe return of the six Sri Lankan fishermen onboard. Following the rescue, the vessel was escorted to the Seychelles, marking a triumph in the face of maritime piracy threats.
Meanwhile, the Indian navy intercepted an Iranian fishing vessel, named Iman, which had fallen victim to pirate aggression along the eastern coast of Somalia. Through swift and decisive action, all 17 crew members were liberated from captivity, and the vessel was restored to safety under naval protection.
These rescues underscore the ongoing threat posed by Somali pirates, prompting heightened vigilance among regional authorities. The prompt response by Indian and Seychellois forces not only safeguarded the lives of the fishermen but also upheld maritime security in the volatile waters of the region.
