by Fishery News

In a daring sea rescue operation, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) came to the aid of the Indian Fishing Boat (IFB) Rosary, which had encountered engine failure approximately 215 nautical miles from Karwar, Karnataka. The incident occurred on April 16, 2024, when the distressed IFB Rosary sent out a distress call, prompting the swift response of the ICG Ship Savitribai Phule despite adverse sea conditions.

Upon reaching the stranded fishing boat, the boarding team from the ICG ship immediately initiated efforts to rectify the engine failure. Despite their best efforts, the engine remained non-functional, leaving the boat immobilised. With quick thinking and collaboration with the Coast Guard District Headquarters (Karnataka) and the Fisheries department, the ICG ship towed the IFB Rosary towards the safety of Karwar port.

The coordinated efforts of the Coast Guard and Fisheries department ensured the safe passage of the stranded fishing boat, underscoring their commitment to maritime safety and rescue operations. Following the successful rescue, IFB Rosary was handed over to IFB Shree Laxmi Narayan, which escorted it safely to Karwar port.

This heroic rescue operation highlights the unwavering dedication of the Indian Coast Guard to safeguarding the lives of seafarers and ensuring the security of maritime activities along the Karwar coast.
