Born in Maharashtra, Dr. Sharma’s journey from a curious student to a globally recognized leader in shrimp aquaculture is truly inspiring.
Dr. Sharma’s early life in Nanded, Maharashtra, was marked by a deep interest in aquatic life. His academic pursuits led him to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries Science, followed by a Master’s from the Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE), Mumbai. He later completed his Ph.D. from Ramanand University, enhancing his expertise in the field.
In 1994, Dr. Sharma laid the foundation for shrimp aquaculture in Gujarat, where he established the Surat Aquaculture Farmers Association (SAFA). His visionary leadership helped elevate shrimp production in the region, surpassing the national average. Dr. Sharma’s commitment to sustainable practices led to the establishment of Mayank Aquaculture Private Limited (MAPL), where he focused on producing high-quality shrimp while promoting environmentally friendly methods.
Dr. Sharma’s latest venture, “Zhingalala,” a pesco-vegetarian restaurant, embodies his philosophy of “pond to plate,” showcasing the journey of seafood from its origin to the consumer’s table. Known as the “Father of the Blue Revolution in Gujarat,” Dr. Sharma’s contributions have set new standards in the industry.
