The Fisheries Research Center in Lucknow is gearing up to issue Aadhaar cards for fishes, mirroring the identification system for humans. The initiative aims to provide detailed information about the origin of each fish, specifically identifying the river it belongs to. The Uttar Pradesh Fisheries Ministry, led by Minister Sanjay Nishad, plans to release one lakh fish babies equipped with Aadhaar cards into the Ganga River from Atal Ghat.
Minister Sanjay Nishad highlighted that this groundbreaking system is the first of its kind in the country, where fishes will be released into the Ganga River with Aadhaar cards. The initiative is expected to generate employment opportunities for communities residing along riverbanks and promote fisheries development. Small committees are actively working on this project, incorporating chips with fish-specific information to streamline the tracking process, ensuring clarity on the fish’s origin and river affiliation.
The Fisheries Ministry anticipates significant benefits from this initiative, envisioning a halt to illegal fishing activities. Minister Sanjay Nishad emphasized the environmental impact, stating that the release of fish is aimed at restoring balance to aquatic organisms affected by the increasing pollution in the Ganga River. This innovative approach not only marks a step towards sustainable fisheries but also holds the potential to curb illegal fishing practices, thereby benefiting the ecosystem and local communities.
