A recent virtual meeting brought together the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and the Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) to discuss maritime concerns. Conducted under the provisions of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and standard operating procedures signed in 2015 and 2017, respectively, the meeting focused on crucial issues such as cross-border fishing, information sharing, and capacity building.
Inspector General Iqbal Singh Chauhan, Commander of the northeast for the Indian Coast Guard, and Captain Mohammad Kibria Haq, Commander of the west zone for the Bangladesh Coast Guard, co-chaired the meeting. The discussions aimed to sensitize fishermen to the challenges associated with cross-border fishing and explore strategies for fostering effective information-sharing mechanisms. Additionally, the meeting addressed the enhancement of capabilities for both coast guards.
These collaborative efforts highlight the shared commitment of India and Bangladesh to maritime security and the promotion of mutual understanding in the region. The meeting aimed to further strengthen the partnership between the two nations in addressing common challenges in the maritime domain.
