by Fishery News

In a bid to enhance the capabilities of seafood processing units, the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) has initiated a comprehensive three-day training program on ‘seafood value addition.’ The inauguration ceremony, held at Sandhya Aqua Exports Private Limited in Krishna district, featured key figures such as K. Anand Kumar from the Seafood Exporters’ Association of India (SEAI), Dr. Tummala Suguna, Director of Aquaculture Research at Fisheries University, and A. Jeyabal, MPEDA Joint Director.

Mr. Anand Kumar expressed optimism about the positive impact of the training on increasing the export of value-added seafood from India. He highlighted the substantial demand for such products in both domestic and international markets, emphasizing that the export of value-added seafood items would contribute to job creation.

Dr. Suguna echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the employment opportunities that could arise from expanding exports in the value-added seafood sector. The program received praise and gratitude from Sandhya Aqua Exports’ general manager, Akash Swaminathan, who acknowledged the cooperative efforts of Director Edera Harish and commended the MPEDA for organizing the training initiative.

Mr. Jeyabal underscored the untapped potential for increasing exports of value-added seafood products and encouraged active participation in the training program. MPEDA Deputy Director K. Sivarajan revealed that the training would feature hands-on sessions conducted by experts from Vietnam, namely Tran Quoc Son and Chi Thi Tuet Mai.

The training program is expected to equip participants with valuable skills and knowledge, fostering growth and innovation in the seafood processing industry, ultimately contributing to the expansion of India’s seafood export market.
