Chennai: The Fish for All Research and Training Centre at Poompuhar, an initiative under the M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF), commemorated its 14th anniversary with a series of events organized on Thursday. The celebration witnessed the launch of several noteworthy initiatives, including the Home-shed Mini Solar Dryer, designed to empower fisherwomen to hygienically and environmentally dry fish at home, enhancing marketing opportunities. The initiative is supported by the Indian Overseas Bank.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, an exclusive Helpline facility for fisherwomen was inaugurated in collaboration with the Reliance Foundation and USAID. This helpline aims to address queries related to post-harvest fishing linkages and other concerns. Additionally, digital tools (Tabs) were distributed to fisherwomen to facilitate better access to information.

The event also took the opportunity to recognize and felicitate several youths from coastal villages who volunteered to remove discarded ghost gear from the sea and shoreline, contributing to environmental conservation.

MSSRF and ICAR – Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (CIBA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to foster collaboration on training and research in the field.
