Odisha Secures Funding with Sanctioned Projects Worth Rs 1,071 Crore

In the third day of the Sagar Parikrama Yatra Phase-XI, Shri Parshottam Rupala, the Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, engaged with beneficiaries in Chandinipal, Bhadrak district of Odisha. The event saw active participation from fishermen, fisherwomen, and members of PFCS, highlighting the challenges faced at the Chandinipal fish landing centre, which supports approximately 10,000 fishermen.

During the interaction, beneficiaries discussed their challenges, and Shri Parshottam Rupala, recognizing their contributions, felicitated them with Kisan Credit Cards (KCC). Assets, including motorcycles with ice boxes, were also distributed under the PMMSY scheme, aiming to enhance the production and productivity of the fisheries sector through modern and scientific methods.

Shri Rupala emphasized the significant impact the PMMSY scheme would have on the fisheries sector, boosting income, increasing fish availability, and positively influencing food security and nutrition. Go-ahead letters were issued for the construction of a Modern Fish Retail Market and the modernization of an existing Ice Plant during the event.

Dr. Abhilaksh Likhi, Secretary (Fisheries), shared that projects worth approximately Rs 1071 Cr. had been sanctioned in Odisha, focusing on aqua parks, fish landing centers, fishing harbors, and more. The program included visits to Dhamara Fishing Harbour in Bhadrak, where the Secretary interacted with fishers and inspected facilities. The event continued at Chudamani, Bhadrak, and Chandipur Fishing Harbour, Balasore, with on-ground interactions and the distribution of benefits under PMMSY schemes.

The program witnessed the physical attendance of around 14,700 people from various places, and it was live-streamed on social media platforms, reaching a broader audience. The Sagar Parikrama Yatra Phase-XI, which started on January 7, aimed to interact with fishermen, disseminate information on fisheries-related schemes, promote responsible fisheries, and demonstrate solidarity with coastal communities in various districts of Odisha.

The Yatra, led by Shri Parshottam Rupala and attended by esteemed public authorities, proved successful in addressing challenges, sharing success stories, and promoting the development of the fisheries sector in the region. The program concluded with a resounding success, leaving a lasting impact on the coastal communities and stakeholders.
