Ketchikan, Alaska – The Seagriculture USA 2024 conference, a premier global event for the seaweed industry, concluded successfully on 12 September 2024. Held under the theme “Exploring New Frontiers,” the two-day event brought together nearly 200 stakeholders from 10 countries to discuss sustainable and economically viable future paths for the seaweed industry.
Representatives from over 120 companies and institutions participated in dynamic discussions, networking sessions, and knowledge-sharing activities. The program included six plenary sessions, two panel discussions, and the newly introduced “Seaweed Elevator Pitches,” which allowed attendees to rapidly explore various projects within the seaweed sector. Nearly 50 international speakers from major organizations like the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Cargill, EY, the World Bank Group, and Hatch Blue shared their expertise on seaweed farming, industry innovations, and regulatory frameworks.
Key topics included the development of Alaska’s seaweed industry, global investment opportunities, and marketing strategies, alongside a special session titled “Ask a Kelp Farmer,” supported by Greenwave, which provided insights directly from seaweed farmers. A major highlight was the unveiling of a Congressional Report on seaweeds by Bigelow Laboratory Ocean Sciences, underscoring the industry’s growing influence on national policy.
Kuno Jacobs, Managing Director of DLG Benelux and organizer of Seagriculture conferences, remarked, “Seagriculture USA 2024 has been a testament to the power of collaboration and innovation within the seaweed industry. The enthusiasm and insights shared reaffirm our belief in the potential of the seaweed industry to address global challenges.”
The conference also featured a trade show where 12 exhibitors showcased the latest technology and innovations in seaweed farming, drawing lively interactions among attendees. Networking events, including a happy hour hosted by Blue Robotics, a local Lumberjack Show, and a closing soiree at the Salmon Falls Resort, further enriched participant connections and fostered collaboration.
As the Seagriculture conference continues to expand, it remains dedicated to advancing the seaweed industry’s future. Upcoming Seagriculture events are planned for March 2025 in Adelaide, Australia, and June 2025 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
