Dr. L Murugan, the Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, announced that approximately Rs 38,000 crore has been invested in the infrastructure development of the fisheries sector over the last 10 years.
In a statement to the media outside the Parliament on Friday, Dr. Murugan highlighted the substantial investment, with a significant portion allocated to the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, amounting to Rs 20,000 crore.
Dr. Murugan emphasized the crucial role played by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in supporting the fisheries sector. He noted that ISRO is actively involved in providing satellite communication and transponder communication services to fishermen engaged in deep-sea fishing.
This facility is designed to assist fishermen in identifying and locating optimal fishing zones, contributing to improved efficiency and productivity in the industry.
The investment in fisheries infrastructure development reflects the government’s commitment to fostering growth and sustainability in the sector. Dr. L Murugan highlighted the multifaceted approach, combining financial support with advanced technology, to enhance the capabilities of fishermen and promote the overall development of the fisheries industry.
