The 3rd World Ocean Science Congress (WOSC 2024) which will take place from February 27 to 29 will be hosted at the IIT Research Park, Chennai. Organised through National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) Chennai, Vijnana Bharati, IIT Madras in collaboration with the Ministry of Earth Sciences, the conference will focus on the theme “sustainable utilisation of oceans in the blue economy”.

The three-day events to see experts deliberating on the durable harnessing of ocean resources, addressing the threat of climate change, maritime security, advancing technology and promoting collaborations among coastal communities that will engender a sustainable future.

A press release highlighted the collaboration of various institutions under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), including INCOIS in Hyderabad, NCPOR in Goa, IITM in Pune, CMLRE in Kochi, NCESS in Thiruvananthapuram, ICAR CMFRI, CSIR NIO, AICTE, and the Ocean Society of India, to ensure the success of WOSC 2024.

The opening ceremony of the congress is scheduled for 10 a.m on February 27.27. Parliamentarian L. Murugan,the Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying will inaugurate the valedictory function which will be held on February 29.

WOSC 2024 can be considered as a vital network for cooperation and innovation in the realm of ocean sciences with emphasis on exploring the opportunity offered by the blue economy while taking into account the sustainability of oceanic resources.
