Tot Ram of Kullu District Honored Among Top Five Trout Fish Farmers in India

In a significant recognition of his contributions to the trout farming industry, Tot Ram from Kullu district has been rated among the five best progressive trout fish farmers in the country. The accolade was presented by the Directorate of Cold Water Fisheries Research, Bhimtal, during the National Fish Farmer Day celebrations.

Vivek Chandel, the Director of the state Fisheries Department, lauded Tot Ram’s 20-year dedication to trout fishing. He highlighted Tot Ram’s achievements in trout farming, including the establishment of 15 trout raceways and a hatchery with the department’s support. Currently, Tot Ram produces approximately 15 metric tons (MT) of fish and 4.5 lakh trout ova at his farm.

“Himachal Pradesh is a leading state in trout production and ranks first in trout production in the private sector. At present, there are as many as 742 trout fish farmers in Himachal Pradesh, who produce about 1,400 MT trout fish,” stated Chandel.

National Fish Farmer Day is celebrated annually on July 10, honoring the leading fish farmers across the country. This year’s event was held at the Directorate of Cold Water Fisheries Research in Bhimtal. Chandel expressed pride in Tot Ram’s national recognition and announced plans to adopt new technologies through a memorandum of understanding with the Directorate of Cold Water Fisheries Research.
