Training Programme in Jiribam District Aims to Enhance Fish Yield

Manipur Seva Samiti, together with Prem Dhara Charitable Trust and Godrej Agrovet Company, undertook a training program at Borobekra and Jakuradhor in Jiribam district as part of their combined initiative to multiply the fish yield in Manipur. Binanda Khundrakpam, Managing Trustee of Prem Dhara Charitable Trust, welcomed the address by expressing the value of determining the items from Manipur that can be transported through the Maibam train now available at the Jiribam rail station. He underlined the need to perform extensive research before running the sales of fish products so as to guarantee a high sales percentage.

Secretary Leader of Godrej Agrovet Company, Mr. RK Suranjoy, disclosed the role of routinely replacing 10% of the pond water every 15 days as a technique of fish farming, which is important. Alternatively, he advised getting rid of the water and draining it to let the air into the vessel in order to promote the necessary oxygen levels for the fish, thus growing them faster. Suranjoy affirmed that the fish trade of Manipur stands apart from the rest of the country since the omnipresent consumption of fish in Manipuri households places limited pressure on the fishermen’s profits. The goal of the training program is to provide participants with in-depth knowledge along with the expertise they need to raise yields wisely.

The organizers wanted to achieve this by sharing knowledge of best practices and creative techniques. Thus, they aspire to boost local fish farmers and ultimately contribute to the sustainable growth of the fisheries sector in Manipur. Together, these and other organizations promote applying attentive measures and educational initiatives like this to improve the livelihoods of fish farmers, increase fish production, and enhance the economic growth of the community. Since the days of fish industry growth through the years, these training and development approaches have undoubtedly acted as catalysts in nurturing novelty and flexibility as a sector.
