The Department of Zoology at the University of Kashmir has embarked on a mission to revolutionize sustainable aquaculture practices through a week-long training programme titled “Fish Farming and Utilization of Less Expensive Ingredients in Fish Feed.” This initiative, part of KU’s skill development programme, aims to empower individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in the field of fish farming.
The inauguration of this training programme marks a significant step towards fostering entrepreneurship and self-reliance in the region. Professor Nilofer Khan, Vice Chancellor of the University, highlighted the institution’s commitment to nurturing start-ups and promoting skill development among its students. The training will equip participants with expertise in formulating cost-effective fish feed and monitoring fish health, essential for both natural and culture systems.
Professor Naseer Iqbal, Registrar of KU, emphasised the pivotal role of start-ups in addressing contemporary challenges and stressed the university’s dedication to providing holistic education encompassing practical skills vital for professional growth.
Professor Abdul Ahad Buhroo, Head of the Department of Zoology, outlined the objectives of the training programme and affirmed the department’s commitment to conducting similar initiatives in the future. The collaboration
between the university, industry partners, and government agencies ensures that students are well-prepared to meet the demands of the job market.
Dr Imtiaz Ahmad Khan, Associate Professor and Event Organiser, highlighted the importance of sustainable practices in fish farming and the exploration of cost-effective feed ingredients, which will contribute to advancing aquaculture sustainability.
The inaugural session, attended by faculty members, officers, scholars, and students, underscored the significance of skill development in unlocking employment opportunities and fostering economic growth in the region.
